How to maintain Windows
- Do not install any software you don't need.
- Do not install device drivers unless the device does not function without the software.
- Only install compatible drivers for your operating system (Windows 2000 drivers for Windows 2000, and Windows XP drivers for Windows XP)
- Check http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ weekly, if updates are available install them and reboot

Defragment all of your hard drives monthly
- Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.
- Highlight (click on) a drive in the top pane of the Disk Defragmenter window that appears.
- Click the "Defragment" button in the lower pane.
- The system will automatically defragment your hard drive, showing the progress, and will offer a printable report when completed.
- Reboot machine at least once per month
- Run CCleaner (uncheck cookies under IE, Firefox, Chrome..) once a month. If you don't have CCleaner installed, download and install it from this site: http://www.ccleaner.com/
